HERBS THAT WORK BETTER THAN DRUGS

MIGRAINE HEADACHES AND OTHER PROBLEMS

FROM PREVENTION MAGAZINE

Our universe provides this information for your instruction and to introduce you to our technology that will give the answers to your health problems, on your planet.  Although this information provided by prevention magazine is the results of their extensive research, it is missing the rest of the scientific story.

Not only does this information that Prevention Magazine miss having true scientific methods within this research it has gathered together, but the search obtained was done with pseudo-scientific research methods.  What people do not know or understand is that everything that has been offered to the public concerning your Allopathic Medical and Alternative Health Care methods and products used for dealing with pain and disease has come from inadequate, pseudo-scientific procedures!

We can prove this because we have a superior scientific system and because of this we have been able to develop the technology that tells you how to know what will work and then how to use it to achieve success and solve unanswered problems.  We can see the weaknesses within these two systems by using our complete scientific technology!

When can show you that when any of these substances are used properly they will work, but no matter how much research do using the inadequate system that you do, your researchers will always come up short with the truth, because their scientific systems are incomplete and misapplied.  Our science reveals this as a scientific fact.

We want you to know that taking the advice given in any of your texts is at your own risk, because neither they nor you really know if it will work, so you will spend a lot of time and money seeking for what does, unless you have our easy to understand and use scientific system.

Wouldn’t it be a lot better to have a science that can help you know what will work before you spend time and money trying to find the answer, for problems that come from not living and doing things properly, in the first place!

Knowing how to live to avoid problems, pain and suffering is a great thing to have!  We are trying to show you the difference so that you will become aware that there are answers to your dilemma!

Prevention Magazines information starts with this introduction from one of their advertisements:

(continued from page 3)

“…astonishing: In many cases, ordinary herbs work better than the most powerful prescription drugs!

That’s right.  They’re not just safer and cheaper—they’re actually more effective!

Many scientific studies prove that herbs outperform drugs for a wide variety of chronic conditions. These include

arthritis.., osteoporosis... and prostate enlargement…Plus, migraines.., anxiety... irritable bowel... and more.”

OUR COMMENTS:

Yes, herbs work, but when used the way your professionals use them they work sporadically or hit and miss, helping one a great deal, others less in degrees according to the chemical compatibility of them to whom ever uses them.  Then if not used with knowledge and understanding they may cause harm!

They are good foods, like all other foods, if they have been grown on ground that has the proper nutrients, otherwise they do not work so good, because they cannot provide what is needed.  Now, even though they may be high quality, when they are not used properly, with understanding, the outcome will be different with each person who uses them; so it is impossible to tell people that they will work for them, specifically when no one really knows!

Do You?

This happens because they do not have a true science to assist them!  But, even though this is true, professionals still sell them or tell people they will work, when they really do not know or by accident they use a system that often provides sufficient information to have them work more often than not.

This does not mean that they know what they are doing, even though they want to do what is right, most of the time their need or desire for money over rides their integrity and lack of knowledge, as they believe they are doing the best they can, even if they do not want to know the truth.

Knowing the truth will cause them to have to re-adjust their belief systems to what really is the cause of most disease and that will cause them to lose face in the eyes of the public, who then will go elsewhere for help.

That means they will make less money because people will go where they can really get the help needed.  Or they will learn what they need to have and force by law everyone to come to them, destroying all of their competition!

Is this what you want?

Well, it is already happening, because they have a false definition of what causes and cures disease, they have resorted to use methods of treatment and research filled with false processes.  Yes, some of their procedures work to varying degrees and if something work well it happens mostly by accident,  because they do not have true scientific methods.

Their occasional successes only get people involved sufficiently to addict them to the process, hoping it will really work.   Of course the probability of success is always going to be by chance, when you do not have a complete science that helps you do the most correct things, with minimal failure.

You will note that they have some of the truth to use, but just enough to get into trouble, when they do not know what to do, because what is working stops or what didn’t work before now works, they cannot explain nor do they understand everything that happens.  They know some of the true.  Yes they know that you are all different and respond differently to the same things, a fact they know but cannot scientifically explain!

You will see what we are talking about as you read this information!  Information acquired from Medical Researchers.  Good information is obtained but it is misunderstood and then misapplied!

They continue:

“But that’s not all. You can use herbs to cure ailments for which there are NO drug treatments! For example, you can use herbs to kill viral infections that don’t respond to antibiotics. You can use herbs to treat varicose veins and cervical dysplasia. And you can use herbs to halt macular degeneration, the number one cause of blindness in Americans over age 60.

Now please understand, I’m not saying that every condition responds better to herbs. Obviously, if you had a broken bone... or a cancer tumor... or a case of acute F. coil poisoning... you’d be better off with conventional medical treatments.

But you’d be surprised at the number of cases where herbal remedies beat drugs and surgery hands down. Take menopausal problems, for example. Thanks to a little-known herb, you can...

It stops migraines... and prevents them from coming back!

M

igraines are an absolute nightmare. The pain is excruciating...and it’s often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light.

But now there’s a cure for migraines —an herb that not only relieves migraine pain, but decreases the frequency of attacks! The herb is called feverfew, and it works by preventing the constriction of blood vessels in the brain.

How well does it work? In clinical studies, people who took feverfew had less pain…, less nausea..., less vomiting..., and decreased sensitivity to light.   Plus, they had a reduction in both the duration and frequency of migraine attacks!

Important: Do NOT use any feverfew product made with dried feverfew. It won’t help your migraines, and may actually make them worse!

Instead, buy feverfew tincture…or use capsules that contain freeze-dried feverfew leaves. The recommended daily dosage is 15 drops of the tincture or three 300-mg capsules per day.

Sail Through Menopause Naturally!

Some 3 million American women take estrogen replacement therapy. It’s quite effective at alleviating menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

But estrogen therapy can also cause a whole host of nasty side effects. These include nausea... headaches... breast tenderness... hair loss... and abdominal cramps. Plus, depression... dizziness... bloating.., body hair... uterine fibroids... and abnormal vaginal bleeding.

What’s more, several studies show that taking estrogen can increase your risk of breast cancer and endometrial cancer by as much as 13.9 times!

Luckily, you don’t have to expose yourself to these risks. And you don’t have to suffer any side effects, either. That’s because clinical studies show that an herb called black cohosh works much better than estrogen. In one study, women were divided into three groups: one group received estrogen, another received a placebo (dummy pill), and a third received black cohosh.

Result: The black cohosh group got better results on all symptoms, including hot flashes, fatigue, and mood swings. Even more amazing, the researchers found that black cohosh actually reversed menopausal changes in the vagina. There was an increased proliferation of vaginal tissue.. .plus improved vaginal muscle tone and a decrease in vaginal dryness.

Black cohosh requires no prescription. You can find it at any good health food store. Take 500 milligrams, three times a day... and say goodbye to menopausal discomfort!”

OUR COMMENTS:

What they do not tell you is that there were varying degrees of help for each woman and that some received more help than other, while there were also those that it did not help and some that were harmed.  But, in their research methodology these failures were insignificant and did not change the fact that more got help than those that didn’t and in spite of the fact that they cannot explain scientifically why it helps and why it doesn’t, except that people are different!

“Get Rid of Tendinitis and Bursitis With This Ordinary Kitchen Spice!

If you’ve ever had tendinitis or bursitis, you know how stubborn it can be. Just when you think it’s gone for good, the pain and inflammation return. And then you’re back to taking Tylenol, ibuprofen, or other painkillers.

The problem is that regular use of these painkillers can lead to a whole host of health problems. For example, aspirin can cause ulcers and other gastric distress. Tylenol can hurt your liver and kidneys. And steroidal painkillers can cause weight gain, hypertension, mood changes, and joint damage.

Fortunately, there’s a better way—and it’s right on your kitchen spice rack! The answer is turmeric, that yellow spice you add to rice when you want to give it color.

Turmeric does more than just add color to a dish. Its active ingredient, curcumin, is a first-rate antioxidant and a powerful anti-inflammatory. In fact, laboratory studies prove that curcumin is just as effective at reducing inflammation as the potent drugs hydrocortisone and phenylbutazone!

 (continued from page 5)

And without the steroidal side effects!

You can add turmeric to your food, or take it in capsule form. The suggested dosage is 400 milligrams, three times a day. For best results, take it with bromelain capsules and flaxseed oil. You’ll get better absorption and greater anti-inflammatory effects.

Protect Your Eyesight

With

This Delicious Berry!

The older we get, the more our eyes begin to fail us. For of us, it simply means having to wear glasses. For

ethers, it means cataracts. And for over 10 million Americans, it means macular degeneration, a deterioration the retina that leads to permanent blindness. The good news is that you can heal these eye conditions and more.. .simply by eating bilberries!

OUR COMMENTS:

If this is true, and it is, then it is food that feeds the body what it needs to correct pain and suffering and it is food that causes these conditions, so in reality there is no such thing as MEDICINE, for it is either a food or a poison!  Thus, you have the major reason why “one man’s food is another man’s poison,” but you do not know or understand why, “one man’s food becomes their own poison.”  Although this berry helps with this eye problem, they cannot tell you that it will help you or if it will not, nor can they explain why!  So, you still have a problem that can develop if you eat these foods suggested and they do not help you but hurt you.  You not only have more problems, but you have wasted valuable time, money and weakened your body’s immune system even more, opening it up to other problems!

To Continue:

“Research on bilberries began during World War II, when British military officers discovered that fighter pilots who ate bilberry jam had better night vision than those who didn’t. Since then, dozens of studies have been conducted, and the results have been astonishing.

In one study, people who took bilberry had improved visual acuity, quicker adjustment to darkness, and

faster restoration of vision after exposure to glare.

In another study, bilberry extract improved the condition of patients with macular degeneration, retinitis, and diabetic neuropathy.

And in still another study, bilberry extract plus vitamin E stopped the progression of cataracts in a whopping 97 percent of patients treated!

The message is clear: If you want to protect your eyesight, there’s no easier way than to take bilberries!

If you already have eye problems, you’ll get better results if you take the extract rather than the whole berry. Look for a formulation of this bilberry extract that contains 25 percent antho-cyanosides. Take one 160-milligram capsule

three times a day.

By now, I think you’re starting to get an idea of the wide array of health problems that can be treated with herbs. But what I’ve discussed so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

That’s why the folks at PREVENTION Health Books asked me and a colleague, Linda White, M.D., to take our most exciting, most useful cures arid compile them into a comprehensive herbal guide. The result: a giant, 624-page book called

THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE.

THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE is the first-ever collaboration between the editors at HERBS FOR HEALTH and our counterparts at PREVENTION. It contains safe, effective cures for 98 different ailments. Here’s a small sample of the remedies you’ll find inside:

The “Dynamic Duo” for fighting high cholesterol. Take these together for a powerful one-two punch that lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. Page 332.

ALL-NEW ARTHRITIS ANTIDOTES

If you haven’t had luck with other arthritis remedies, try these!

Y

ou ‘ye probably heard of glucosamine sulfate, the arthritis remedy that’s supposed to relieve pain and rebuild cartilage. Many people who try glucosamine get fantastic results, but many others get little or no relief.

Why? Because everyone’s body is different. And because there are over 100 different types of arthritis.

The bottom line is this:

What works for other people may not work for you. That’s why it’s important that you know about all the different remedies, not just the most popular ones. Here are some little-known arthritis remedies taken from the pages of THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE:

Evening primrose. The seed from this plant contains a fatty acid known as GLA (gamma linoleic acid). In the body, GLA balances the level of hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which in turn fight inflammation.

GLA is particularly effective on rheumatoid arthritis, a type of arthritis that doesn’t always respond to glucosamine. Suggested dosage: one teaspoon of evening primrose oil per day.

Boswellia. In animal studies, this plant resin from India has shown an amazing ability to control arthritis. It also reduces inflammation and improves circulation to the joints. Suggested dosage: up to three 400-milligram capsules per day.

Stinging Nettle. For fast relief of joint pain, apply the ~ leaves of this plant to the effected area. They

contain anti-inflammatory compounds that seep through your skin and into your body.

By the way, in addition to being a potent anti-inflammatory, stinging nettle is high in boron, a bone-building mineral that’s helpfril for both arthritis and osteoporosis.

Stinging nettle, boswellia, and evening primrose are just three of our favorite arthritis remedies. You’ll find a dozen more in THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE.

The best way to treat fibromyalgia. Forget ibuprofen and other painkilling drugs. You’ll get better results with these herbs, which relieve pain and bring more oxygen to your muscle cells. Page 252.

Nature’s perfect antidote to stress. This South Pacific herb works in the same way as the drug Valium, but has no side effects and is not addictive. Page 508.

Brush up against this plant, and you’ll get hives. But take it in proper form as an herb, and it has an anti-allergy effect that fights hives. Page 333.

I            When you get a rash from poison ivy—or even a mosquito bite—look around your lawn for this common weed. A few leaves applied to your rash will give you fast relief and healing.

Page 464.

Better than Prozac! More than 40 scientific studies show this herbal remedy is just as effective, but with significantly fewer side effects. Page 199.

Use this important herb if you’re plagued by sleeplessness due to anxiety. It acts like Valium but without causing a morning hangover or leading to addiction. Page 82.

Better than Dramamine for fighting motion sickness. British studies show that this ordinary substance is 57 percent more effective. Page 419.

Better than Maalox, Mylanta, or Pepto-Bismol.

These herbs relieve pain and inflammation...soothe intestinal walls.., and release trapped gas.

And they fight yeast infections, too. Pages 211-215.

The easiest way to unclog your arteries. This miraculous herb shrinks existing plaques and prevents the development of new ones. It has virtually no side effects. Page 307.

5 versatile medicinal herbs you can easily grow yourself.  All you need is a small window box and you can have your very own “herbal pharmacy.” Page 40.

How I Became an “Herbal Doctor”

By Linda White, M.D.

Co-author, THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE As a conventionally-trained M.D., I had limited experience with herbs.

That changed 14 years ago, when I became a mother. You see, most childhood illnesses are viral in origin, so there’s really nothing in the conventional medicine chest that can help them.

If you have children, you know all about the litany of fevers and sniffles and earaches. And you know how heartbreaking it is to watch helplessly as your little ones cry and suffer and ask mommy to make them feel better.

It’s especially hard when you’re supposed to be a healer and you can’t even heal your own family!

We lived on the same Street as the local naturopathic physician. She examined my son and prescribed echinacea, licorice, and mint tea. And she showed me how to use hot herbal compresses. These remedies made my son feel better right away, and they helped the illness run its course more quickly.

From that point, I was hooked! I began learning everything I could about herbs and natural remedies— and incorporating them into my work. And when I saw how well those remedies worked, I wanted to tell the whole world about them!

I’m very proud of my contribution to THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE, and I urge you to take a look at it. I know it will make a positive impact on your health and the health of your loved ones.”

OUR COMMENTS:

Yes, these foods work, but just as the Naturalist, they also do not really know how or why.  Yes, they can find out what they believe is the active ingredient but they cannot tell why it works on one person or another differently, except that they know we are different.  They have no easy scientific definition or explanation for their action and/or reaction!

and much more!

As you can see, THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE is chock-full of safe, natural solutions to common health problems. But that’s not all. THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE is full of unique information that makes it unlike any herb book you’ve ever seen.

For example, we tell you which herbs are safest.., which forms are the best to take.., and which dosages work best. We reveal which herbal preparations have the proper potencies... and which are a rip-off. We also give you the lowdown on the cautions and dangers of various herbs. For example, some herbs should never be taken by children. Some should not be taken by women who are pregnant. Some should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision. And some herbs shouldn’t be taken at all! You’ll find all the information you need in THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE.”

OUR COMMENTS:

We know that what they are saying about when and when not to use something is not derived from a scientific basis, but from experience.  If they had a science they would know who and who not to give that substance to, rather than assuming that those they say should never use it, is a concept derived from experience and not from the true scientific application.  When things are used or applied properly, there are no bad responses, thus to say never is totally unscientific and said in ignorance, do to experiences which took place, because that substance was used inappropriately and in an incorrect manner!

They continue:

“But that’s not all. THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE is the first book to offer side-by-side comparisons of pharmaceutical and herbal cures. Just look up an ailment or condition and you’ll know right away what the various healing alternatives are. You’ll also know the pros and cons of each.

Our approach is straightforward and unbiased. Unlike a lot of alternative health “gurus,” we recognize that herbal medicines aren’t a cure-all. So if drugs are the best solution for your condition, we tell you so. And if herbs are as good or better, we tell you that, too.

OUR COMMENTS:

We  like their candid attitude as they tell you how honest they are about giving you the truth, but we do not trust this in the slightest, because we know that what they are saying is only partly true and that they often are dead wrong and lack the ability to say it the way it really is.  They do give good information.  But, like all ALLOPATIC MEDICAL GURUS, as well are more biased and give twisted or not straight forward declarations they believe to be good, in our science and technology, do not prove out to be so good after all.  Their information is misleading and filled with non-scientific methods declared to be science, as if they really know what they are doing, when they really do not because they do not know better.

They are trying in all honesty, but do not know or understand that they lack true science and what they do is not true science, because they have hot thought things out for themselves and accept what is being do to be science!  Their own Ignorance may be innocent bliss, but it creates a great deal of destruction in the process of misinforming all ignorant believers!

They think they have solved all their problems because they have taken information from an M.D. and an Herbalist, but in this innocent act they only propagate the great error both systems have, that they do not know they have, because in their own self deceptions, they do not know their science is not complete and the information they are giving has many errors and weaknesses!  Who made these two sources they use such all knowing authorities to represent the whole world and all of its systems with their opinion as the truth?  Are you to take their word for it now that they have said they do not nor can they lie or misrepresent the truth about herbs or drugs and how they work!

How did they get so much authority and truth to represent the world on these issues?  They didn’t and don’t.  They just take it and tell you they and only they can give your what really works.  Well, you will be disappointed big time if you believe all of what they are saying!

Take what is the true that you are learning about and find out more before you jump to any conclusions about anything you read, including all the we have to say to you as well as what we teach in our seminars.  You must always find out for yourself what works for you and how to do that is your problem.  We believe we have a very good answer for you in our seminars!  Try us, you just might like us!

They continue:

“Since the book is written by both an herbalist and an M.D., you can be sure you’re getting the complete story. And since it’s thoroughly researched by the staffs of HERBS FOR HEALTH and PREVENTION, you can be sure the information is comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date.

In a moment, I’m going to tell you how to get a copy of this wonderful book to examine FREE for 21 days. But first, I’d like to share some more herbal remedies with you. Like this one...

The Magic Herb That Fights Heart Disease,

Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis and More

Imagine there was an herbal remedy that was proven to help stroke, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis.

Imagine that same herb was effective against asthma, altitude sickness, tinnitus, and fibromyalgia.

And imagine that you could also use it to get rid of canker sores, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and carnal tunnel syndrome.

Well, imagine no more. Such an herb exists! What’s more, it’s easy to find at health food stores and supermarkets.

The herb I’m talking about is ginkgo biloba.

That’s right, ginkgo biloba, the popular memory-boosting herb. Ginkgo does a lot more than improve memory: It’s also a powerful antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory, a toner of vessels, and a tonic that improves overall health and well-being.

It’s fitting that ginkgo would be such an amazing cure-all. After all, it’s the oldest tree species on the Ginkgo trees have been around for over 65 million years, surviving everything from dinosaur extinction to nuclear explosion!

There’s so much more you should know about this amazing plant. You’ll get complete details on how to use ginkgo, including the correct substance to take for each ailment, in THE HERBAL DRUGSTORE.

OUR COMMENTS:

Yes, this herb has helped someone who had one of these conditions or even more than one, but the truth is it does not help everyone and if not used correctly, it will hurt you!  The type of statements that they have made above are what we are talking about.  Yes, it is good information, but they do not tell you how these products should be properly used.   All they can show is the information they have gathered about how they have helped people overcome a problem.

They cannot scientifically tell you why etc. some are not helped, just like drugs work sporadically, so do all substances, when not properly used!   Their advice comes from, after the fact experienced outcome and not from a true science, therefore they can only give you approximately what to do.

They do not know what will really work for you by what worked for others!  This is a dangerous way to operate and as deceptive as they proclaim Alternative Guru’s are as Prevention Magazine editors and researchers regurgitate the errors of others, proclaiming what they have to be the best!

Yes, the truth sometimes hurt the feeling of good intentioned people, but this is serious business and anytime someone presents themselves as the ultimate, including us, is walking on thin ice.

Just because something works for someone does not mean it will help everyone to the same degree, nor because it hurts someone, does it mean that it is bad for everyone!

Check us out please!  Then decide for yourself who has more to offer!

The Easiest Way To

Shrink an Enlarged

Prostate

Another condition that responds better to herbs than to drugs is an enlarged prostate.

Clinical studies show that the popular prostate drugs Proscar and Hytrin provide mediocre relief from prostate problems. And they cause side effects ranging from impotence and decreased sex drive to dizziness and low blood pressure.

In contrast, the herb saw palmetto is safe, can be taken indefinitely, and works for up to 88 percent of men who take it! Another herb, pygeum, also works better than drugs. And it’s particularly effective at reducing urinary problems such as nighttime urination and poor urinary flow.

We have no doubt that this book is one of a kind and that it has very good and important information that everyone should have on their shelf, but only if you know what you are doing will this book be good for you.  It does not have all the information you need to make it worth your while to buy it as your knowledge stands at this point!

WE suggest you get it only if you also find out where you can take one of our seminars to learn the rest of the story!  Otherwise you will be like a little child with a loaded gun!

OUR COMMENTS:

What we have said above applies to everything you read, including that which is given below!  Remember that all Alternative Practitioners like Naturopaths, Chiropractors and Herbalists do not have this science and therefore follow the Allopathic system of application and research to obtain their knowledge!

They also misuse their substances and therapies because of this fact.  We want them to learn what they need to know to become more sufficient in what they do and protect them from the attempts of Allopathic Pirates to undermine Alternative Health Care!

Saw Palmetto Extract: Nature’s Answer to Prostate Enlargement

The prostate is a single, doughnut-shaped gland about the size of a walnut that lies below the bladder and surrounds the urethra. The prostate secretes a thin, milky, alkaline fluid which lubricates the urethra to prevent infection and increases sperm motility

Prostate secretions are extremely important to successful fertilization for procreation. Benign (non-malignant) enlargement of the prostate gland is known medically as “benign prostatic hyperplasia” (BPH). Because an enlarged prostate can pinch off the flow of urine, BPH is characterized by symptoms of bladder obstruction such as increased urinary frequency, nighttime awakening to empty bladder, and reduced force and caliber of urination.

Q How common is BPH?

A Very. Current estimates are that it affects over 50% of men in their lifetime. The actual frequency rate increases with advancing age from approximately 5% to 10% at age 30 to over 90% in men over 85 years of age.1

Q How is BPH diagnosed?

A It is often recommended that men over the age of 40 have yearly prostate exams. This exam is not high tech. It simply involves a doctor inserting a gloved finger into the rectum and feeling the lower part of the prostate for any abnormality. However, in the case of BPH, often the prostate has not enlarged to a point recognized by physical exam. And, in the case of cancer, a digital exam is not reliable enough.

The classic enlarged prostate due to BPH will usually feel softer (boggy) and may be two to three times larger than normal. In BPH the prostate is non-tender, this differentiates it from prostatitis. The classic finding in prostatic cancer is that the prostate feels much harder and the border is not as well defined.

The definitive diagnosis for BPH can be made with the aid of ultrasound measurements. But, because the symptoms of BPH and prostate cancer can be quite similar, a simple blood test is used to differentiate BPH from the more serious prostate cancer. The blood test measures the levels of a protein that is produced in the prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The PSA test is regarded as a highly significant and ½ sensitive marker for prostate cancer. The normal value for PSA is less than four nanograms per milliliter. An elevation above 10 is highly indicative of prostate cancer.

There has been concern that the use of PSA as a screening test for prostate cancer is not reliable enough. Although an elevated level indicates prostate cancer, mid-range elevations in PSA can be caused by BPH and in some instances, there may be prostate cancer yet PSA levels are not elevated. Despite the fact that this test is not perfect, it is a simple, relatively non-invasive test that can provide valuable information. PSA screening has been endorsed by the American Cancer Society, the American Urological Association, and other physicians’ groups.

If you are a man over the age of 50 and if any of your immediate relatives—father, brother, or uncle—has had prostate cancer, an annual prostate exam and PSA test is a very good idea.

WARNING:        Prostate disorders can only be diagnosed by a physician. Do not sell-diagnose. If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with BPH or prostate cancer. see your physician immediately for proper diagnosis.

                                                   urine flow, prostate volume, and

                                                   international prostate score

Although the saw palmetto extract has shown excellent results in numerous clinical trials, results from a recent study are perhaps the most revealing.18 In this study, 305 men were given 160 mg of the saw palmetto extract standardized to contain

85% to 95% fatty acids and sterols twice daily. After 45 days, 83% of patients estimated the drug was effective.

After 90 days, the percentage increased to 88%. Similarly, global evaluations made by physicians after 45 and 90 days demonstrated 81% and 88% effectiveness, respectively.

The objective evaluations demonstrated remarkable improvements in all measurements. Maximum urinary flow (ml/s) increased from 9.8 to 12.2, mean urinary flow rate (ml/s) increased from 5.8 to 7.4, prostate volume (mm3) decreased from 40,348 to 36,246; and the international prostate symptom score decreased from 19.0 to 12.4. No serious adverse reactions were reported.

While these results are impressive, perhaps the most impressive changes occurred in the quality of life scores as shown in Table 2.

Table 2. Quality of life scores

Evaluation                  Day 0                 Day 90
Delighted                              0.6%               5.4%
Happy                                  2.3%             24.0%
Satisfied                               9.7%             36.8%
Mitigated                            22.7%             20.9%
Unsatisfied                          43.8%               9.5%
Unhappy                            18.5%               2.4%
Hopeless                              2.3%               1.0%

These improvements demonstrate just how powerful of an effect that improving bothersome symptoms such as nocturia can have on an individuals mental outlook. Many men suffering from an enlarged prostate suffer from sleep deprivation.

Improving sleep by reducing the number of times for nighttime urination is thought to be the major reason for the improvement in quality of life scores with saw palmetto extract. Another important finding from this study was that the saw palmetto extract had no demonstrable effect on serum prostatic specific antigen (PSA) levels.

Q    How soon should I expect to see results with saw palmetto extract?

While the drug finesteride (Proscar) typically takes up to a year to produce significant benefit, saw palmetto extract produces better results in a much shorter period of time. Most patients achieve some relief of symptoms within the first 30 days of treatment.

Many studies on the saw palmetto extract were shorter than 90 days: final measurements were calculated as 90-day measurements.

**There are few long-term studies on saw palmetto extract, yet the effect at three months (or less) are obviously superior to Proscar.

Q.   What about other herbal medicines for an enlarged prostate such as pygeum, pumpkin seed oil, and stinging nettle?

A.    Based on careful examination of the published literature, I would rate the relative effectiveness of these agents as follows:

saw palmetto > pygeum > urtica> pumpkin seed oil. However, in certain situations one herbal approach may be more effective than another. Even though I rate pygeum lower than saw palmetto, in some cases it may produce better results than saw palmetto. Each plant has a slightly different mechanism of action and can certainly be used in combination safely.”

OUR COMMENT:

See what we mean?  It all looks and sounds good, but because everyone is different, what works for one may not work for another, etc.  Can you explain in true scientific terms, why this is so, including all the other responses that are obtained from these herbs researched?

All double blind studies prove is that the researchers are DOUBLE BLIND, for when a substance works on some people and not another it does not add to or take away from its value.  Its value can only be evaluated when it is used correctly upon the right people and this cannot be successfully done with double blind studies!

This double blind form of research is something people have to resort to when they do not have a complete science to follow, just so they can tell people that they are doing research and get results!  This does not in any way tell you that the results has value or what that value might be and if there happens to be some, how much value does it have!  The outcome tells it all!

They continue:

“To achieve the benefit with saw palmetto, it is essential that the fat-soluble saw palmetto extracts are standardized to contain 85% to 95% fatty acids and sterols. These extracts are available in capsule form; take 160 mg twice daily.

A similar dose of active compounds using crude berries, fluid extracts, and tinctures cannot be easily achieved. Again, if you want the best results, make sure you are using the right extract at the right dosage.

Saw palmetto extract is completely safe, has no significant side effects have ever been reported in the clinical trials of the extract or with saw palmetto berry ingestion.

OUR COMMENTS:

As for being completely safe and having no reported significant side effects, this is truly a ignorant statement made by people who do not have a science to follow, for had they one to use they would instantly know that what they have said is totally untrue and can be scientifically proven to be false!

So, now who do you trust or should we say, who can you trust?

Q What causes BPH?

A.     BPH is largely the result of hormonal changes associated with aging. It is clearly dependent upon the actions of male hormones (androgens) within the prostate. These changes within the prostate reflect the many significant changes in both male (androgen), female (estrogen), and pituitary hormone levels in aging men. The main male sex hormone testosterone (T) decreases with advancing age, but estrogen, prolactin, LH, and FSH levels are all increased. The ultimate effect of these changes is that within the prostate gland there is an increased concentration of testosterone and an increased conversion of this testosterone to an even more potent form known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The increase in testosterone and DHT is largely due to a decreased rate of removal combined with an increase in the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT.2 Elevated estrogen levels are thought to be the key factor that inhibits the elimination of DHT from the prostate in BPH.

Q is having an enlarged prostate dangerous?

A If left untreated, BPH will eventually obstruct the bladder outlet resulting in the retention of urine and eventually kidney damage. As this situation is potentially life-threatening, proper treatment is crucial. In the past, medical treatment involved a procedure known as a TURP (trans-urethral resection of the prostate). Because this surgery is associated with a high rate of morbidity and will often make matters worse, it should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

There are about 30 different plant-based compounds currently available in Europe for the treatment of BPH. But, the most popular (and seemingly most effective) is the extract of saw palmetto berry.

Q What is saw palmetto berry extract?

A Saw palmetto extract is an extract made from the fruit of a palm tree (Serenoa repens) native to Florida that has been shown to significantly improve the signs and symptoms of BPH in numerous clinical studies (see Table 1). The mechanism of action is related to improving the hormonal metabolism within the prostate gland. As a result of its multitude of effects, excellent results have been produced in numerous clinical studies. Roughly 90% of men with mild to moderate BPH experience some improvement in symptoms during the first four to six weeks of therapy. All major symptoms of BPH are improved, especially nocturia (urinating at night).619

Q  Are herbal medicines effective in the treatment of BPH?

A Yes. But, the chance of clinical success with any of the botanical treatments for BPH appears to be determined by the degree of obstruction as indicated by the residual urine content (the amount of urine left in the bladder after urination as determined by ultrasound). For levels less than 50 ml, the results are usually excellent. For levels between 50 and 100 ml, the results are usually quite good. Residual urine levels between 100 ml and 150 ml will be tougher to produce significant improvements in the customary four- to six-week period. If the residual urine content is greater than 150 ml, saw palmetto extract and other botanical medicines are not likely to produce any significant improvement

QIs BPH common in other parts of the world?

A Yes. Interestingly, however, is the fact that plant-based medicines are much more popular prescriptions in Europe than their synthetic counterparts, according to an article published in the British Journal of Urology. Specifically in Germany and Austria botanical medicines are considered “first-line” treatments for BPH and account for greater than 90% of all drugs in the medical management of BPH. In Italy, plant extracts are prescribed 10 times more frequently than drugs like Proscar and Hytrin.3~

OUR COMMENTS:

That is exactly correct!  He is practicing as a Medical Doctor using what they call Natural Medicines, thus he follows the Allopathic system that is an art and not a science!  It all looks good, but just as with drugs, there are glitches in the application and not everyone will get help from these herbs.  To assume because they do not help everyone that they are no good, is just as ludicrous as saying they are safe with no side effects!  Ignorance sure is bliss, but also very dangerous!
